Blackout poetry

Blackout poetry is another something I’ve been meaning to have a go at for ages and now that I have, I can’t wait to do another one. Master of the art form has to be Austin Kleon, author of Steal Like an Artist and, appropriately enough, Newspaper Blackout (both of which I highly recommend).
Better days
Better days, hot meals,
laughter and tears ― I wonder
who used to live here.
We discovered this wonderful old building in Christchurch a few years ago. The house has been around for a hundred years and has, no doubt, seen better days. It made me think about the family that grew up here and saw this house as their home — years ago, before the paint peeled and the roof rusted and the weeds took over — and that’s what inspired the haiku.
