The next chapter
P.S.
Here are a couple of other D&A projects…

A newspaper ad promoting Adbusters’ Buy Nothing Day. Originally a 72-hour group project, this ad is my personal solution. It was created using images sourced from the Internet.

Christchurch City Mission installation (concept): a graffiti-knitted artwork to raise awareness of the City Mission and encourage $2 text donations. My idea is that giving to a good cause is like giving (and receiving) a ‘warm fuzzy’. The mock-up shows knitted scarves wrapped around wooden seats. Donate and feel the love!
And here are a few pages from my sketchbook…

Playing with my (then) new Winsor & Newton watercolour pan set which I bought for sketching while out and about.

These were exercises suggested by Danny Gregory in his book The Creative License: drawing in other languages…

…and copying the work of famous artists. The Rembrandt turned into a study of 17th Century hats.
Design detour, sixth and final part

Student project to design an infographic poster. Images used in the vehicle stacks are courtesy of the Internet.

Student project to redesign a bus timetable.

Client project: logo design and poster for Willie’s Open Mic. Student project: branding campaign (newspaper ads, mail out and promotional brochure).

Student project: photography (and digital) — making use of my illustrations.

Student project: Fairtrade Fortnight branding campaign — logo, coffee cups and poster. The tee-shirt was just for fun. This was the final project for the D&A graphic design course.
Design detour, part five

Student project: Chef logo, labels and magazine advertising campaign. Background images used in the ads are courtesy of the Internet.

Student project to design the logos, labels and menu (among other things) for a fictional bar and brewery. My campaign evolved from the idea of the Old Mill being a converted textile mill. The illustrations were inspired by the textiles of William Morris.

Client project: logo for Access Broadcast News, a media-monitoring company in Wellington. Website by Ocular.

Student project: photography, incorporating various drawing projects.

One of my favourite projects was a booklet based on Stefan Sagmeister’s ‘Things I have learned in my life so far’ book. My lesson: “You don’t have to be like everybody else”. ELSE was written using an LED torch, a tripod and an eight-second exposure.
P.S. You can read more about this booklet in my more recent posts: WORDS, WORDS, WORDS
Design detour, part four
Our school building was badly damaged by February’s earthquake and we moved to a new site. It was less than ideal but it was okay. Life goes on.

Hand-drawn A3 patterns.

Student project: organic soap logo, names, illustrations and packaging design.

Student project: drawing – pigment liner, watercolour and digital effects.

Typography class: pigment liner and digital.

Personal project using parts of the ‘Type A’ letterform and watercolour backgrounds.

Student project for a new chocolate bar – name, logo, illustration and wrapper.
