“Your ability to see is your tools of trade; nothing else matters. Beautiful seeing is the desideratum. Remember, when you hear people say they can see a thing but not do it that they cannot really see it. If they did, they could do it even if they put the paint on with their fingers.” Charles Hawthorne
I’ve posted this quote before. It’s one that stays with me. I often find myself thinking “if I could really see this, I could put the paint on with my fingers”. But what if the thing you want to paint is the abstract impression of a favourite song? What if the thing you are “seeing” is a feeling, an impression, something in your mind’s eye?
I had one of my favourite songs playing in my head when I painted these little abstracts. I imagined being in the mountains just before dawn as the birds were beginning to wake up. You may see something completely different. Make of them what you will. I see the colours of early morning and mountains in the clouds. And I hear music… Birds by Lisa Crawley.
Because I’m total dweeb at the ‘art’ of painting, I REALLY appreciate the intro that let me know these were abstract & your inspiration for them, CUZ once you shared that, I was totally on board, with the thoughts, “Oh! Yes! I see! the stillness as night recedes and day arrives – the freedom, from, but part of the air, while in flight” – may not be what you envisioned, but given context for my non-artsy mind – via words, you helped me to come along on either your journey or a tandem trail of thought! 🙂
On second thought, more ideas coming, now that you gave me a nudge in right direction – I see 1,001 different interpretations – which is why I’m a dweeb at art, but thanks for puttin’ up with me, all the same!!! 🙂
Seeing 1,001 different interpretations is creative thinking, TamrahJo, not being a ‘dweeb at art’ (as you put it). I’m glad you like the intro. I almost didn’t write it because I didn’t want to limit what they could be to anyone looking at them, and looking at art is such a personal thing. But I did write it… and I’m really happy that the story behind the paintings has been of some use. Thank you : )
Well, in my world easier to write 10,000 words than draw a stick figure! Lol. I may not fully grasp all the finer nuances of fine art, but I do so admire those who create such things! 🙂
FYI a good stick figure IS really hard to draw ; )
Lol.
