‘The View’ is a little something I made for this year’s Christmas market at Sumner.* The painting is of our beautiful Kaikoura coastline as seen from the Port Hills in Christchurch. I found a $5 frame at a recycling depot, removed the seriously ugly dried flower art that was in it, and painted a landscape on canvas to complement the mahogany-coloured wood (see photograph below). It was such a fun project, I may have to go in search of more frames that need rescuing.
*I’ll be selling my art cards and a few of my smaller paintings at the Sumner Market in Christchurch this coming Sunday 13th and also Sunday 20th December, 10 am – 2 pm.
Dianne asked for her logo and business card design to be feminine with a certain ‘shabby’ or ‘cottage chic’ elegance. It also had to communicate the style and quality of her handmade jewellery, and to have girly and vintage elements without being overcomplicated. And yes, it had to be pink.
The logo earrings (based on the pair in the photograph below) are hand-drawn except for the ‘beads’ which are the D, A and O of a particular font. The vintage doily that completes the design was my grandmother’s. Yes, I am a magpie… after all, you never know what’s going to come in handy for a project.
Divine Adornments is also taking part in the Art & Crafts pop-up mini market. We are having two more this year: Saturday 13th and Saturday 20th December. Please visit my Facebook page for more information about these events.
CRAFT FAIR UPDATE: Unfortunately, this Saturday’s craft fair in Halswell (Christchurch, New Zealand) has been cancelled. The organisers say there weren’t enough stall holders to make it worthwhile. I find myself looking around the art cave at my freshly varnished paintings and thinking: what was all that about? Ah well, at least I’ll be prepared when the next art fair comes along!
So that’s the reason I’m posting Monday’s Shoot it, Sketch it a few days early (the painting is a reworking of Riding the waves) ― to let you know what’s happening (or not happening, as the case may be) and because it’s the perfect image for how I’m feeling at the moment.
Now I think I’ll have a few days off and turn my attention to more pressing matters… such as the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who this weekend : )
November is a crazy month… and it just got crazier. I have decided to take some of my art to a local craft fair (details below). It’s a real first for me as I’ve never offered my art for sale before. The fair is next Saturday (23rd)*. If you happen to be in the neighbourhood, it would be so very cool to see you there.

P.S. For the curious among you, the Runner image is based on this doodle.
* PLEASE NOTE: Unfortunately, the craft fair was cancelled. Organisers say there were not enough stall holders to make it worthwhile holding the event.
