Fresh off the drawing board, here is a little sketch of the hotel we stayed at in Ross last weekend. The town was established in 1865 during the West Coast gold rush and once had a population of more than 3,000 ― now it’s closer to 300. We had a wonderful time at a friend’s ‘When I’m 64’ birthday party and jam night : )
On the way there, I took a few photos of the mountains which are looking positively picturesque at the moment (Christchurch to Ross via Arthur’s Pass). I’ve posted my absolute favourite shots on my Facebook page.
Awesome sketch!
A delightful drawing! -Sharon
What a charming little place! Your drawing captures it. Sounds like a fun weekend!
Thanks for the message you left on my blog. It seems a coincidence for me, as I’ve never received a comment from a New Zealander before. But one of my sons was in Christchurch just last week! (My partner’s family live in the North Island, which I have also briefly visited – not very often unfortunately, as it’s rather expensive from France!)
This house immediately said something to me – I really like all those wooden buildings you have in NZ. I guess many of them have been destroyed in Christchurch – the message we got was that there was nothing left hardly – how devastating for everyone. I hope that things get better & good luck with your artwork.
Hi and thanks : ) I hope your son enjoyed his visit. We have had a bit of a rough time with all the quakes… a lot of buildings were destroyed but large parts of the city are fine (relatively speaking). Buildings made of wood seemed to cope with the shaking a lot better than some brick and concrete structures so, thankfully, there are still plenty of lovely old wooden houses around Christchurch.
Great sketch Anna!
I really surprised when I see many posts here that I missed !

Thanks, Violet.
You’re not the only one having problems with the Reader. I don’t always see the blogs I’m following either (and there’s no rhyme or reason to it). Anyway, it’s good to have you back : )
