‘City Lights’ is my second black canvas diptych inspired by Melbourne at night. The photograph (below) that inspired the painting was taken somewhere near Lygon Street. The photo of the painting (above) doesn’t really do it justice. As much as I love painting these black canvases, I’m finding them almost impossible to photograph properly.
I’m already on to the next one… : )

Wow. I love this. There is something about those starry lights and I like the effect of the barely visible building with its lighted windows almost hanging in the air.
Thanks so much, Claudia. Those are the things I like best too. The photograph makes the building stand out a bit too much… in reality, the building almost completely disappears into the black and so the windows really do seem to hang in the air (almost like stars). I’m glad you like it.
