A last-minute sketch of the last minutes of a sunset in Hagley Park (because the acrylic painting I had planned to post today isn’t quite finished yet). I hope you’ll forgive the slightly blurry photo (my fault for not taking a tripod). Sunsets in the park can be spectacular at this time of year ― yes, we’re well and truly into autumn now in Christchurch.
Wow- love the illustration and photo. I want to be beneath those trees.
Ents in the making ..
Lovely Anna .
Wow Anna! That drawing is awesome! You have made the drawing pop with the colours you used. Those colours on the ground & the leaves look great together.
What motivates you to choose colors different from the photo? Impulse? Interpretation? Available supplies? Instinct? Other?
Yes, all of the above. This sketch was all about setting the trees on fire and so I painted the soft blue-greens to make the bright orange sunset really stand out… The acrylic version is different again (I’ll be posting that next Monday).
Nice abstraction from the original.
I really like this painting. It does remind me of the cherry esplanade I spoke about in my post today.
This is inspiring me to paint it. Thanks Anna!
I’m thrilled that it’s inspiring you to paint the esplanade (you can never have too many cherry trees)! I look forward to seeing it on your blog : )
Yeah! I love it too. Amazing interpretation. You rock! Makes me want to go down there for a walk!
Me too! And this time I’ll take my tripod : )
Lovely, Anna. Beautiful colors, too.
Gorgeous painting.
i love this.
